This website is the creation of me, William Burnett, for the purpose of helping to inspire those who endeavor to DIY. I hope you find the content entertaining and useful.
Where did the word "BeanAnimal" come from? Very simple, circa 1985 William attempted to iron the words "Be An Animal" onto a t-shirt for wrestling practice. The words were placed too close together, giving the impression that the shirt said "Bean Animal". The rest is history.
The DIY community (society as a whole?) is rife with misinformation and urban legend. Many people have stopped using science and logic to form well thought out arguments. Instead, they offer unsubstantiated opinion (many times agressively) as an alternative to fact. That would be fine, but they have no desire or intention to prove that opinion with fact and instead take great offense to having that opinion disproved by fact. When I grew up, having opinion discredited by fact was called learning!
The act of shouting down facts with unsubstantiated opinion is regarded as a right by many people. We hear things like "lets agree to disagree" or "stop bashing his opinion" or "everybody is entitled to an opinion". What has been lost is the simple fact that in many of these arguments, there is most certainly a right and wrong. It follows that not all opinions are good opinions and not all opinions are valid opinions, they are, well, just opinions.
My desire is to (when possible) cut through this nonsense and help people by promoting fact over fiction. Our physical world is governed by well known science that can be (sometimes very easily) applied to anything in it. Common sense and logic can be used to fill in many of the gaps that the layman (me and you) does not understand. I hope that this website can be a beacon in the fog of misinformation that surrounds much of the DIY community. The more we all learn from each other, the smarter we will all be.
